What is vermeil 18+?

Vermeil is a type of jewelry material that is composed of a base metal that is coated with a layer of gold typically measuring from 14K to 24K. To be considered vermeil, the gold layer should consist of at least 2.5 microns in thickness. This type of jewelry has become very popular because it provides the luxurious appearance of gold jewelry, but at a more affordable price point. The vermeil technique originated in France during the 1700s and has been widely used in jewelry-making ever since. The term "vermeil 18+" simply refers to vermeil that has a gold layer of 18K or higher.
